Description
This offer from Uncle Pete's Books and Collectibles is for an absolutely exquisite example of decorative arts in their highest quality.  This Royal Crown Derby vase/urn was manufactured in 1920 Derbyshire, England, by one of the premier porcelain suppliers of England's royal family and was painted and signed by famed ceramic landscape and floral artist, Cuthbert Gresley (1876 - 1963), who joined Royal Crown Derby in 1893, bringing with him the talent and notoriety of the already reputable family name of Gresley landscape artists. This delicate, but bold piece focuses around an original and signed Cuthbert Gresley landscape painting of a bridge in Scotland, which is complimented perfectly by the strong, cobalt blue of the vase body and luxurious real gold gilt design trim and accents. The vase stands 7 inches (18 cm) tall, spans 4 inches (10 cm) from handle to handle, rests on a base of 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter and, opens to a diameter of 2 inches (5 cm) at top measuring from rim and 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm) measuring from trim.  It weighs 7 ounces (210g).        Distinguishing marks on the piece are the signature of "C. Gresley" on the edge of the painting, printing of "Brigg of Turk. Scotland" under the base (also by Gresley), along with the Royal Crown Derby maker's mark and date symbol establishing it as being produced in 1920.  The only flaw on this otherwise flawless piece is the minutest chip on the inside rim of the base which cannot be seen while displayed and only discovered upon the closest inspection of the underside of the piece (see photo). This one-of-a-kind vase would be a great investment or addition to any discerning buyer's decorative arts collection. Please contact us if you have any questions or need additional photos.
