Description
W.C.Anderson "Fredericka" 15-In. Decanters & Wine Stems   The HOUSE OF BRILLIANT GLASS for the finest in American Brilliant cut glass "Fredericka" was designed by W.C. Anderson and produced at his own American Cut Glass Co. Leigh Emmerson accredited the design to Anderson and named the design in an October 2001 Hobstar article. Please refer to page 60 of 'Chain of Evidence' for a short history and photos of "Fredericka." A copy of Leigh's 'Hobstar' article will be sent with the set. Page 77 of 'Rarities in American Cut Glass' shows a pair of these unhandled decanters and twelve 7-inch tall wines. The set we are offering has the handled and unhandled decanters and a pair of 7-inch wines. The handled decanter stands 15-inches tall, has a maximum diameter of 6.41-inches and weighs 6.8-lbs. The unhandled decanter stands 15 1/2-inches tall, has a maximum diameter of 6.41-inches and weighs 5.3-lbs. The magnificent pattern-cut stoppers weigh a total of 2.0-lbs , are 5 1/2-inches in length and the largest has a maximum diameter of 2 5/8-inches. Both stoppers have large 'teardrop' air bubbles and are perfectly fit. The triple-notched handle is perfectly annealed. Single decanters of this large size with over-sized, pattern-cut stoppers and cut 'gooseneck' sediment traps are very desirable and difficult to acquire; being cut in a known design by a known cutting house is a bonus! A pair of matching decanters is even better but, in our opinion, is trumped by a set with both the handled and unhandled versions. Condition: FSG1615, the unhandled decanter, is in better than extremely fine condition. FSG832, the handled decanter, has some very minor chipping which we did not consider restoring; not noticeable when on display FSG1492 (2) -- both wines have original top & bottom rims. One has two very small pattern chips; the other has two very small rough spots on one of the fans.
