(The shape is similar to TST's ornate embossed "Fairway" shape.)  Chelsea was the name chosen by the Quaker Oats Company which purchased these dishes from both Taylor, Smith & Taylor Company and the Homer Laughlin Company, for use as premiums for Quaker Oats' customers.  TST made a wider variety of pieces than HLC did in the pattern.  This pattern was also offered in five and dime stores of that era. My reference for this listing is page 97-98 of  "Taylor, Smith & Taylor Dinnerware" by Mark Gonzalez, a 2004 Schiffer collectors book.  The teapot is marked underneath with the old "TST Co" shield mark.  Other sources list this pattern as TST 423. It is decorated with gorgeous sprays of white and pink briar roses with green leaves, with a filigree embossed raised relief design on the lid and around the bottom.  The lid finial is shaped and colored like a rosebud (a design feature added circa 1935).  It has silver platinum trim along the wavy top edges, on the spout and on the handle.  The background color is a creamy white.  (My camera is malfunctioning and giving me light and dark photos, with the lighter ones being more true to the teapot's colors, though a bit washed out.)  This teapot is almost 5" tall to the tip of the finial, and 8.75" from spout to handle.  It is in very good vintage condition, with no chips, but it has an old tight 1/2" hairline on the inner rim , a very pale tan stain on the inner rim of the lid (which fits inside the teapot) and mild browning of crazing lines inside at the bottom of the pot.  (All these stains can be lightened with a peroxide soak.)  The teapot has surface crazing to the finish throughout, with only a few darkened, as is typical of these old pieces.  The platinum trim is very good, with just very slight rubbing near the spout tip.  The floral design is unfaded, intact and fabulous. As the photos show, this piece displays beautifully! I think this dinnerware pattern looks especially nice on a soft green tablecloth, but a pink tablecloth also shows its colors beautifully.  To my mind, this is the prettiest pattern TST ever made. I will be offering many more pieces in this pattern shortly.  I have my own cherished set of these dishes, but many extras that I can spare to sell. Please view my other beautiful items currently up for auction.
