Description
100% GENUINE WHITEFRIARS KINGFISHER SHOULDERED VASE complete with polished pontil!!!   In January of 1967 Geoffrey Baxter’s new ‘Textured’ range was launched to a fanfare of approval. As its designer, Baxter produced for Whitefriars an ultra-modern range of glassware that fitted in beautifully with the quirky feel of the day. The Bricklayer, Banjo, TV and Nuts & Bolts vases (to name but a few) stood out for being different. So too did the colours; the subtle hues of cinnamon, willow, indigo and pewter contrasting magnificently with the brilliantly striking tones of aubergine, tangerine, kingfisher and meadow green. Another interesting feature is that all of the pieces were individually handmade with cased glass. This meant that the dramatically coloured glass was embedded within a layer of crystal clear glass for added effect and which can be clearly seen in several places, especially at the base. Sadly, the textured range was manufactured for less than 10 years before the closure of the company during the recession of the 1980s. Today, 40 years later, these amazing designs look incredibly contemporary. As a result they are more popular than ever and are avidly collected around the globe. They're also cherished by interior designers, are regularly written about in the top interiors magazines and often appear in the background sets of several daytime TV shows! These items are extremely desirable, exceedingly collectable and ever more difficult to acquire antiques of the future. This is such a rare and outstanding piece that it literally needs no hype. It has the pattern number 9678 and is nothing less than a SHOULDERED Vase. It is a behemoth of a shape that comes in the highly collectable and vivid blue colour of KINGFISHER. It weighs around a monstrous 2.3 kg, stands 250mm tall (9 3/4 inches in old money), is 210mm wide by 65mm deep and can be seen stood beside a small 8“ Bricky for dramatic effect. It is absolutely gleaming, displays beautifully and is in a super condition with absolutely NO chips or cracks with the base carrying the usual amount of wear. This is guaranteed as an authentic Whitefriars item and carries the ground out and polished pontil to the base which is always a reliable indicator. I have listed minimal photos to help keep the listing costs down but any photo angle can be quickly taken and emailed upon request. ****SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS OF POSTAGE DISCOUNT**** PAYMENT I prefer UK customers to pay by personal cheques, bankers drafts or postal orders and offer a postal discount as mentioned below. Paypal is also accepted by UK customers. Please rest assured that any method is 100% safe - and has been for several years now. INTERNATIONAL customers should pay by PAYPAL only unless they can suggest a suitable alternative before the end of the auction. If you have cold feet please let me know - I’m not an ogre, it’s not the end of the world - if you no longer want this awesome item someone else probably will! POSTAGE METHODS All items are individually parcelled very securely at the end of the auction to facilitate multiple purchases where applicable. We have had no breakages in several years of Ebaying and use quality recycled and new materials to keep costs to a minimum. We only use Royal Mail postal services that meet Paypal’s strict tracking rules. Thus, all UK buyers will receive their goods via Special Delivery whilst International customers must pay for Royal Mail’s AirSure or International Signed For services. All of these services provide a reference number for your parcel with full insurance against loss while parcels are in the UK. I always try to post parcels within 24 hours of a payment clearing and guarantee to have posted your item within 5 working days at the very most! POSTAGE COSTS These are clearly stated later in the listing. Multiple purchases can USUALLY be packaged together and will always be done as effectively as possible - estimates can be given whilst auctions are running if required. DISCOUNTS For buyers paying by cheque, bankers draft or postal order I offer a £10.00 discount off my postal prices. Please let me know if you intend to pay using one of these methods and I will adjust your invoice accordingly. RETURNS Full auction price AND POSTAGE COSTS refunded on any item found to be not as described and returned within 7 days of delivery. QUESTIONS Please feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions at all or require any additional photos (please advise on specific angles etc). ….AND FINALLY My feedback is 100% positive on ALL of my transactions - not just those of the last year. In the unlikely event that you encounter any problems or are dissatisfied in any way then please drop me a line and I will do my utmost to rectify it!
