Description
SquareTrade © AP6.0 Offered for Auction is a Staffordshire piece from my Personal collection. When we moved to Florida last Fall I lost a lot of my 'display'areas! So, I'm going to part with some of them. This Auction is for a Staffordshire Flatback group. They're modelled as a Man & Woman. It is about 9.50" tall & in very good condition. I do not see any cracks or chips. Once  I purchased an item they were set on their display shelf & were not handled. This piece displays very well. Staffordshire Flatbacks emerged during the late 1830s. By the time that Queen Victoria was crowned in 1837. It was the Poters' answer to "here & now". They only had to do the front of each piece. As these were meant for 'front viewing' only. So, a lot of molds from this time frame show more defects & "quick" painting.  This piece has an air bubble on front of base. It is under the glaze. There is light crazing, which is inherent to pottery pieces and a couple of flea size nicks to the paint. There is a 'dimple' on the Mans hat. It also is under the glaze. So, that's been there as a mold flaw. None of those things are detracting, but mentioned for completeness. It serves to give us a 'visual' of those Potters' lives 150+ years ago! And adds to the Charm of collecting these pieces. Their facial features & coloring are still well defined & vivid. I've always loved their well defined 'pink' cheeks! That's part of their charm. This one is such a quaint piece of pottery. Showing the 'simple' life that most of them led during this time. The Staffordshire Potters loved to modell pieces about their lives. What a wonderful way for us to have these pieces & their part of History! This Staffordshie Couple appear to maybe out for a walk in their finest! They each have Cobalt Blue tops. He has pink knickers, green vest and a bow tie. She has a wonderful scotish plaid skirt and a pink feather in her hat! There is gold trim on the base and remenants of Gold trim on the couple's dress.
