Description
Rookwood Pottery Faience 12x12 Arts Crafts Landscape Tile click picture to enlarge click picture to enlarge We are pleased to offer this wonderful Faience landscape tile by Rookwood Pottery. This beautiful tile measures 12 x 12 inches out of the frame and 19 ¾ x 19 ¾ inches total. This fine and rare piece was executed in the Faience style and dates to the 1920’s. Rookwood is often credited with setting the pace in the Arts & Crafts movement and this architectural landscape tile one is no exception. This tile depicts mountains, lake and trees in a polychrome glaze. The tile is free from any chips, cracks or repairs. Please note the pictures of the back of the tile. You can see tiny areas that the back part of the tile has worn away from rubbing against the nails used to secure the tile in the frame. These are minor in our opinion and do not extend to the front side of the tile. The frame is of the period, probably original to the piece, and when this was found, was almost completely black from soot as was the tile. This tile and frame have been in a local attic for many years and needed a little cleaning up. A little Murphy’s oil soap and it really brought out the beauty of the ¼ -sawn oak. The reverse has Rookwood, Faience, and what appears to be the number/letter combination of 1226Y 2 incised. This tile has been photographed with and without a flash for you to evaluate correct coloring. Superb Stickley era decorative tile, which would be a welcomed addition to any advanced Rookwood or Arts & Crafts collection.
