Description
Pair of stoneware planters with brass-plated metal stands. Purchased in 1960 by my mother. No maker's marks. If you only want them because of the maker, do your own research for verification (a kind fellow ebayer suggests Sanford's Guide to Robinson Ransbottom.) They are beautiful, in excellent condition, given their age and purpose. They have been used for plants for 49 years, there is thus some mineral and dirt residue in the interior. The glaze is green, brown, beige, and white (some blue where glazes blend). The raised pattern of the clay mold resembles yucca plants. There are no cracks, no chips, and the edges are perfectly undamaged. The size of the pots is approximately: height 8", top outside diameter 9", bottom diameter 6.25", thickness 3/8". There is crazing of the clear, shiny topcoat glaze. There are no other flaws that are not original to the pots. The stones in the clay have left some surface indentions that were glazed-over, or partially glazed-over. The scans with numbered labels show 8 sequential views of each quadrant; 1-4 are one pot, 5-8 are the other pot. Above #3 you can see indentions in the original unfired clay before it was glazed, and a piece of debris under the clear glaze topcoat. The lower lightness on scan #3 is just glare. #5 shows the deepest indention, but green glaze is running into it, showing it is original to the pot. At the top between the labels 6 & 7 there is a spot that appears white (I did a separate small rectangular scan of this, with some white cotton fabric showing in the photo); this is under the clear glaze topcoat, so must have been done by the worker who applied the color glaze while it was wet, perhaps by a thumb smudge. The height of the stands is approximately 18", and the wire is approximately 1/4" thick. The stands are sturdy, but the finish is pitted, has rust, and has green oxidation of the copper element. They could be re-brass plated or painted if you desire. I have 2 black rubber floor-protector pieces which I will include in the shipment.Auction is PayPal only. Payment is expected immediately following Auction end, via PayPal. Choose UPS or USPS. Add insurance if you desire. Calculate the cost per your zipcode. Shipping will be within 1 business day of your cleared payment.Ask any questions well in advance.
