Description
hdmustangman Store This is a very hard-to-find shape by one of my favorite early arts and crafts pottery companys, Muncie, from right here in Indiana. This is a vase and is hand-turned, not molded, so it has much thinner walls than the later molded Muncie pottery (which have the more weighty feel which Muncie is known for). In my copy of Muncie Pottery by Rans & Eckelman, this shape is shown on the front inside cover (which is a reprint from a catalogue from circa 1925), and there are no actual examples of this piece in the book. (I have the 1999 edition). The color of this is the desirable matte green over pumpkin, and the piece is perfect. It is 6" tall and has the single "A" mark which exactly matches the "A" mark shown in the Muncie book on page 32, lower right, called "a variation". According to the Muncie book, this means the modeler of this vase was also the decorator as well, which dates the piece to +/- 1925. You can see the turning lines inside the vase, and the "A" mark on the base is very clear. This is a terrific piece of Muncie pottery, very Midwest Art Deco, great color, and no problems at all that I can see. Bid with confidence, I have a true 100% rating on ebay after 7 years. Thanks for looking at my auction. Dave
