Description
For sale is a large collection of Priscilla glassware made between by 1925 and 1930 by the Fostoria Glass Company of Fostoria, Ohio. Called Elegant glassware from the Depression Era, it is not to be confused with Depression Glass. Depression Glass was given away in boxes of soap powders and the like during that time. Elegant glassware could only be purchased, and at that time in our nation's history, it was usually only purchased by the more affluent. The individual table settings were often called Mai Jong or Lemonade sets. This implied that ladies often placed the settings on their laps or in a small area on table tops so as not to interfere with gaming or other pursuits. The dinner plates have an indentation that hold the base of the footed, handled glasses or tumblers. There are two sizes of glasses, approximately 6 ounce and 12 ounce. Then entire 50 piece set includes: 7 dinner plates 7 short tumblers 11 tall tumblers 9 saucers 7 double handled bowls 1 creamer 1 large double handled bowl 1 sugar bowl 4 dessert plates 1 ice bucket 1 tea pitcher     These pieces are in pristine, like new condition. There is not a single nick, chip, or scratch in the entire collection. The small glasses atop the dinner plates can be purchased as a set of two for $40 should an antique shopper happen across one of these very rare items. In twenty years of antique shopping for depression era glassware, this is the only green Priscilla glass I've ever run across. The taller footed tumblers, when located, can be purchased for $36 each. Purchased individually, the collection is worth well over a $1500 in today's market. But first one would have to locate the individual pieces and assemble the set - a herculean task at best. Priscilla glassware makes for a lovely serving experience for a shower or ladies' luncheon. We have served Mimosa's in the tall tumblers and still receive comments on the table setting. The matching pitcher and ice bucket, two remarkable finds, enhance the entire experience. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to ask. Shipping and insurance will cost in the neighborhood of $75 depending upon your location.
