About the Artist Polia Pillin (1909–1992) is an American artist who is famous for her unique and distinctive pottery and ceramics. Born in Poland, she immigrated to Chicago with her family in 1924 and married the poet William Pillin a few years later. After studying ceramics and sculpture for many years and also working at the famous Hull House, Polia and William moved to Los Angeles, where interest in her pottery continued to grow, earning her a large and devoted fan base. She invented and developed several techniques for glazing pottery and ceramics which are extremely difficult to produce, yet yield exquisite results. Her style of painting and glazing is essentially contemporary, with influences of Picasso, and is reflective of the tranquility of her environment in Southern California. In the years since her death, Polia's artwork has seen an explosion in popularity and value. Most of her available works are colorful vases or ceramic boxes, with no two being identical. Pillin’s larger paintings and tile works are striking statement pieces, whose rarity and beauty make them prestigious works of art for Pillin enthusiasts and art collectors alike.
