Description
If you like French pottery in the Quimper style, here is an unusual pair of lug bowls most likely from the northern coast of Bretagne in the Paimpol port region. I purchased them at an auction featuring antique French pottery. I am not sure of the age, but they do not have the smoothe and uniform look of contemporary Quimper pottery. They are more rustic in appearance, with a darker base and richer colors than you often see in the newer pottery from Brittany. They are larger, too, measuring 7 1/2" across when measured from the ends of the handles. They are on a base measuring approximately 2 1/2" across. They are in excellent condition overall, with very small nicks in the paint on the rim of the lug featuring the Breton man. Since this pottery is hand-made, it has the variatitons in design and the surface you would expect from artist-crafted pieces. These are two really nice pieces of French pottery that would be fine additions to any collection. Both pieces are marked "PAIMPOLAISE FRANCE" along with what I assume are the initials of the artist. Please note that shipping costs to destinations outside the U.S. are extra.
