Description
Niloak Pottery (Kaolin spelled backward) was made at the Hyten Brothers Pottery in Benton, Arkansas, between 1910 and 1947. Although the factory did make cast and molded wares, collectors are most interested in the marbleized art pottery line made of colored swirls of clay. It was called Mission Ware. By 1931 the company made castware, and many of these pieces were marked with the name Hywood. The vase is 9" tall, 5.5" at its widest point and 4.5" at the mouth. This has no nicks or cracks and has never been repaired. You will note a blemish in one of the photos of it on its side at and near the widest point at the top. It almost appears to be some of the glazing that was used on the interior but I am not sure of that. The Niloak name is imprinted on the bottom as seen in the photo. My mother and father grew up in Benton where these were made but did not start collecting them until later in life. These have been in our family for 30 years or so.
