Description
We're offering this old and interesting ES Prov Saxe handpainted relish with tapestry body finish in the great windmill scene.  This piece was in a box of items acquired from a rural community located very near to the Kansas City metro area.  We still have a large quantity of jewelry and other items from a previous estate that we'll still be selling so be sure to check out our other items for sale this week and in the weeks upcoming.  This fantastic relish was such a surprising piece to find but we also noticed that someone had, at some point earlier, identified the piece in the Mary Frank Gaston book of RS Prussia.  Oddly, the price that they noted on the back of this piece is not what the item books for in my copy.  Anyway, I just wanted to give a reference for the marking that was on the back.  The piece is really unusual and is, according to the second edition of this book, a scarce design.  I can see why as it's pretty unusual looking and has a color palette that many would truly not care for nor want to use for relish.  The textured surface is what caused me to get the piece as I suspected it was rather unusual.  The design and shape is very simple with a nice little scene referred to as "Windmill".  It is expertly executed with a great sculpted handle and a wonderful form.  It does have a great old band of black around the rim of the piece as well.  It's a very interesting piece and is hand painted.  This is truly a beautifully designed piece with superb glazing, textured surface and detail.  It's in great condition with no chips or cracks of any kind.  It is marked with a green Hand Painted ES Prov Saxe Germany emblem.  It measures 7 3/4" wide and 6 3/4" deep and 1 1/2" tall.  Be sure to check out our other pieces of porcelain and ceramics from this estate we're listing this week.  Additionally, we will also be soon listing quite a variety of good quality jewelry, great old costume items and some terrific odds and ends still from the previous estate. If you have any questions regarding the items please feel free to send them along.  We do combine shipping for multiple items and we have a starting price of just 99 cents with no reserve.
