Magnificent Full Sized Chihuly Ikebana Start Price USD 18,500.00 Current Price USD 18,500.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Monday, October 13, 2008 End Time Monday, October 20, 2008 Location Troy, Michigan See more about 'Magnificent Full Sized Chihuly Ikebana' Description It's not unusual for glass makers to trade materials, supplies, and consulting fees between themselves, and in 1996 the Chihuly Studio (detailed in a letter sent from Joe Rossano of Chihuly Studio) sent one Ikebana flower to Arnold Bolling of St. George Crystal in Jeannette, PA for just such a transaction. A second flower was discussed, and was sent not long after. The letter assigns a value of $10,000 each in 1996. In 1998, Chihuly and his glass team visited the glass area just east of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania - more particularly, the Youghiogheny Opal Glass factory. Chihuly commissioned John Triggs, the owner of Youghiogheny, to make 2000 6" by 6" glass tiles for installation in Chihuly's swimming pool in Palm Springs. Around that time, Mr. Triggs acquired these flowers from Mr. Bolling. I purchased the flowers in 2004 from Mr. Triggs. These are the full sized Ikebana, and not the much smaller desk sized ones that are seen more often. The overall height of the sculpture is 44 inches. The vase is NOT a Chihuly vase. I have the letter from Joe Rossano to Arnold Boling, as well as the faxes of the 3 page letter from Chihuly to Triggs from 11/16/98, discussing the tiles, press moulds, and other business dealings between the two (and a few whimsical drawings!) The letter and a copy of the faxes will be given to the successful bidder.
