Description
This is an extremely rare container. Your neighbor is not apt to have one. It was manufactured for Lance Packing Company, Charlotte, NC. Not Lance Snacks. All lettering is raised. Very unique. Glass lid. Very clean and useable. Jar has a slight chip inside the lip where the lid meets the jar. Visible if you look very closely in picture 5; it appears as a blemish. Not noticible if you do not stare and look for it but it is there and wanted to point it out to you. The color of red in picture 5 is a reflected color, not part of the jar. Jar and lid are totally clear. And considering the age of this jar, the glass is extremely clear. I will charge for actual USPS charges plus insurance not the $1.00 figures required to post with-in 3 working days of receipt of payment and will not add any packing or handling charges. PayPal is preferred but will accept certified funds. On Dec-04-08 at 15:34:40 PST, seller added the following information:This following new info is excerpts of an email I received from a Lance family descendant. ”No real question-- but I couldn't help but comment on this wonderful jar. This is a real find but I believe it is older than you have listed. 1918-1925 I am NOT a jar collector by any means, but I am an avid Family History Researcher. My compliments on such a fine piece of History. The reason I am setting the date in that area, is that name "Lance Packing Company". That was the original name used by the founder Phillip Lafayette Lance and his son-in-law. Phillip left here (Asheville NC) in 1910 and moved to Charlotte NC as coffee salesman and food broker. In 1913 he had leftover supply of peanuts which he sold on the streets of Charlotte for a nickel a bag, and with the leftovers he and his son-in-law made peanut butter, put it on saltine crackers. The "Lance Packing Company" was established in 1913. The founder, Phillip Lafayette Lance died in an automobile accident in 1926. His daughter had married Salem Van Every and they took over the company and by the 1930's it was the Lance Cracker/Peanut Company. (I believe, or so I have been told) At any rate the style of the 1930's jar was that of the 'Red" metal top. I have one of these. ‘ ‘ While it is NO longer on their website, As I recall, Several years ago the Lance Snack website had a history of the Jar and listed this “Red Top " jar as in the 1930's. The later Jar was much taller and square and had Glass Lid-- I have one of these as well. I have asked several family historians and people in the know today and NO ONE has ever seen one like you have. It is No Doubt "MOST RARE"!”
