Description
Circa 1824, "Lafayette at Franklin's Tomb" Teapot, Creamer and Covered Sugar Bowl.Rare original set- these pieces spent their lives together- not assembled. New to the market- An estate liquidation.General Lafayette is reclining by an urn-capped tomb that has the name "FRANKLIN" printed on it. Floral designs adorn the sides, rims and lids.Examples of the "Lafayette at Franklin's Tomb" series are identified on pp. 17, 22-23, and 148 of "Historical Staffordshire," 2nd Edition (2000), by Jeffrey B. Snyder. The series was manufactured by Enoch Wood & Sons, and each example is quite historic and intriguing.These pieces remain in a remarkable state of preservation. No restorations. Full condition report below. See photos and description.Teapot. 7 1/2" tall. 10 3/4" wide. 2 short tight lines to inside. We don't see them to outside. Slight underside flake to inner rim that holds the lid- not visible- really only felt.Creamer. 6" tall. 6" wide. 2 slight flakes to spout. Slight glaze wear to high points.Sugar Bowl. 6 5/8" tall. 7 1/2" wide. The finial has been cleanly reset. Shallow edge flake to protruding rim of sugar.Rare Rare Set. Nice transfer. Insides could be cleaned with peroxide if desired- we just love the honest integrity of this investment grade HISTORICAL STAFFORDSHIRE SERVICE.
