Description
~ VERY RARE 18thC LEEDS MOCHAWARE PEARLWARE BLUE COBALT FEATHEREDGE w/EIGHT-STARRED TOP PEPPER POT c1790 ~ ~VERY RARE 18thC LEEDS MOCHAWARE PEARLWARE BLUE COBALT FEATHEREDGE w/EIGHT-STARRED TOP PEPPER POT c1790~ ~ Extra-Fine Collector's Quality ~ ~ NO RESERVE/FREE SHIPPING ~ Presented for your bidding is this extremely rare and valuable example of early English Leeds Mochaware/Pearlware dating to the late 18th century c1790. This is the last of two I've had in my collection for a very long time. From my research this beautiful example is attributed to Hartley, Greens & Co., Leeds Pottery, of Yorkshire, England. I've seen similar Leeds Pepper Pots with just the featheredge decoration round the middle and no rare star decoration on the top offered elsewhere for $695.00 and up! And most all have damage and/or repairs... This is 4 1/4" baluster form Leeds pepper pot features a deep blue cobalt "featheredge" design at the top shoulder of its bulbous-shaped middle and an ultra-rare and highly unusual deep blue cobalt 8-pointed star highlighting the top of the pepper pot. I have never seen one with an eight-pointed star design before. Below the shaker holes and star decoration is a delicately formed narrow ridge. Around the very edge of the wonderfully formed round base is another delicate narrow band of hand-applied blue cobalt decoration. This beautiful antique Leeds Pepper Pot is in the finest possible condition given its extreme age of over 215 years. You rarely find one without damage and nothing but the blue cobalt featheredge decoration, let alone one with a highly unusual eight-pointed star on the round shaker top along with an also unusual blue cobalt narrow band at wonderfully shaped rounded base! There is a hole in the bottom of the base where a cork would have been placed to hold in the contents. It could still be used today, but please be careful if you do! This Leeds Pepper Pot is as fine as it gets, and pristine pieces of this caliber are invaluable investments whose value continues to go up over time... This is a guaranteed genuine late 18th century English Leeds Pepper Pot as one with experience can tell by its light weight and the light blue pooling in the glaze, particularly near and at the bottom and base of the piece. Condition: Excellent. There are no nips, chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. IF you can find one of these, they almost always have damage to the shaker holes at the top and at the narrow ridgeline. All holes in this piece are in pristine as-made condition! The ridged lip below the rounded shaker top is even in as fine a conditionas one could hope for, with only one tiny flaw done at time of manufacture. This piece is completely damage-free! The beautiful decorated round pedestal base is excellent with no damage or wear but for a couple of normal glaze misses or tiny flakes right on the bottom. Dimensions: 4 1/4" high with a 1 7/8" diameter base. The baluster form bulbous middle measures 2 1/4" diameter. I'm proud to offer this museum-quality and ultra-rare late 18th century English Leeds blue cobalt featheredge and eight-pointed star decorated Pepper Pot c1790 with no reserve in a ten day auction format! This is your chance to own and display the finest of early English craftsmanship and quality with your complete satisfaction guaranteed. This is a piece worthy of the connoisseur's finest collection... Shipping is FREE in the USA via USPS first class mail unless another method is preferred by you at extra cost. Insurance is optional and strongly suggested at extra cost to be determined by final selling price. Please wait for invoice before paying. Thank you...
