They are a collectible that one can handle, are extremely durable (some have been preserved for thousands of years, intact, in archaeological sites around the world), and usually easily washable. They come in all formats, sizes, colors and motifs, and are usually extremely artistic and decorative. As is customary with most ceramics, they are produced in a strictly limited edition, and the mold and pattern are usually destroyed before they are issued. I myself made scores of items by hand out of brick and other clay in the Canary Islands, and they were very popular at the craft fairs held there many years ago! Over time we collected, and I still collect, many fine porcelains in different themes by innumerable American and European makers, and I have most of them either stashed in boxes or in my display cases. Some of my Christmas motifs appear around the apartment during the Holidays. Ø 22.5 cm weight - 339 g About This European Plate WOWSERS! this awesome plate is for lovers of antique British semi porcelain wares -- apparently the company started producing their wares in 1865 in Burslem, Staffordshire, UK, and was noted for their ironstone / hotel / tableware The center is a light cream white -- on the center back is the mark / pattern name presented above -- I could not find that exact mark in my available reference books I see no date / artist mentioned anywhere, but guestimate it to have been made in the early 1920s, if not slightly earlier -- I found this pattern online and the page said it was a rare pattern made between 1910 - 1920 -- it has been sitting in a display case downstairs for well over twenty winters The perfect addition to your Wood & Sons plate collection -- it will be well wrapped to avoid damage in shipment -- insurance will be added to the winning bid just to be on the safe side European Antique plate in EXCELLENT+ Condition -- NO chips, cracks, or other defects which I am able to find!
