We appreciate your taking the time to see what we are offering. Please be sure to click on the photos to enlarge them for the best view of this piece. We hope you will check our other auction items as well ! Please send us an ebay message if there is something specific you are seeking, and we will attempt to acquire it for you. The piece at auction you are currently viewing is: Large Spun Shell Dichroic Platter "second" - because of slight flaw. Artist: James NowakSigned: "Dichroic Shell - 07 " see noteSize: approx 17.5" widest diameter X 4" deep Shipping: 75.00 Western US, 85.00 Eastern US (insurance included)No chips, cracks, or damage evident, very slight non-structural flaw as noted in description. Display stand not included in auction - but available to winning bidder. It is sometimes a very, very fine line between a perfect piece of glass, and what is considered a 'second' especially where Nowak's amazing Dichroic Spun Shells are concerned. This example is just stunning overall but is not perfect. A delicious yellow toned base glass is ridged at the back for strength, and then spun on the end of the punty rod by Nowak to produce the gorgeous fluid ripples and fanning that make these pieces so compelling. The Dichroic element on this piece adds a sliver and green refraction coloration, which combines with the base tone glass to add flashes of a delicate coral orange and fleeting deeper greens. Each change in viewing angle, each adjustment of your head and eyes, and the piece changes and morphs into something ever more amazing than it was the moment before. the overall colors of the piece will depend somewhat on where it is displayed and its surroundings, as it picks up and reflects colors within the room as well as in the piece itself. The aura of colors and reflections, combined with the shaping of this particular piece is very fine indeed, and the feeling of the combination of colorations evokes something that feels vibrant and exotic, but somehow still carefully controlled. These pieces are created by Nowak in the studio, and then sent to a very specialized company that adds the Dichroic coating which gives them their amazing reflections and refractions. This piece has a very small flaw in the Dichroic that keeps it from being considered perfect by the artist. It is not readily noticible and does not detract from the overall impact of the piece, however I am noting it. See specific details below. PLEASE NOTE: There is a small (approx 3") area near the lower left side rim of the piece where the coating did not adhere properly, the glass appears just slightly hazed, but there is so much going on with the piece overall that it is not at all obvious and does not detract from the piece when viewing on display. Most viewers would never pick it out, even on close inspection, unless it was pointed out to them. See closeup detail in the last listing photo at lower right.....note that is an extreme closeup of a relatively small area of the whole piece. The small flaw does, allow us to offer it as a 'second' at a fraction of the regular retail pricing -- which would be in the thousands of dollars, rather than hundreds. Nowak has signed the piece with "Dichroic Shell" rather than his name. Due to recent large increases in our cost for the lucite display stands, we must now charge an additional $45.00 (our wholesale) if the buyer would like a stand shipped with the piece.
