Description
This auction is for an amazing old jug. I have been told it is North Carolina Pottery and if any one knows anything different, please drop me a line. It is marked as you can see in the photo with an E inside a box and it has what looks to be a cat tail or feather next to the E. Those are the only marks I can find. I have sent photos to several archeology department at different Universities but have gotten little information to go on. It is very heavy and has a beautiful glaze and I can find no repairs, but don't know if I could spot one. It is 11" high and 9" across the base. The bottom looks like it was set down in something sticky, like syrup, at one time, I did not try and clean it off but some of the white shown in the photo is just shredded paper. The cork is still in the top but has a hole in it and there is a shiny crystal looking stuff on the top of the cork. This was emailed to me and thought I would pass it on, I have emailed several other people in hopes of getting more information. Hi-I was looking at pottery because of an article I read in the newspaper regarding NC Pottery. Try The NC Pottery Center in Seagrove,NC (Ithink that's near Raleigh)where they are having a huge auction Sept.28th and expect 200 pots to bring well over $100,000! Article also says "The Potter's Eye:Art & Tradition in NC Pottery" is a good reference, co-authored by Mark Hewitt of Pittsboro(NC?). The handle on your jug resembles the handle on an elixir jug by JB COLE...$$$. Also, try Dr. Everette James of Chapel Hill,NC...says he has been collecting for years! Hope this helps! It will be shipped double boxed !!!!! Any questions, please ask
