Description
dianedub store This is an Enoch Wood & Sons "Old Blue" Soup Plate, featuring a lesser known View of La Grange, Home of the Marquis de Lafayette, Revoluntionary War Hero. The plate features an appealing hunting scene with two gentlemen in early 19th century dress with their dogs and rifles. In the background is an alternate view of La Grange, Lafayette's ancestral home at Rozay-en-Brie, near Paris. The plate measures 10.25 inches and is in excellent condition. As it is a soup plate, there are virtually none of the knife marks that often mar other plates of this vintage. Plate dates from approximately 1824-1830. Plates featuring elements relating to the life of Lafayette were very popular in the United States, following his last visit to this country in 1824. There are no maker's marks on the back except for a letter 'T' in blue. This is consistent with the practice of Wood & Sons during this period. Please ask all questions before bidding and bid with confidence as I have 100% positive feedback. Please note insurance will be required due to fragile nature of the item. Thanks for looking and happy bidding.
