Southern Pottery Storage Jar NC SC GA!' Description Up for auction is this nice Southern Pottery storage jar. I have had some people tell me it is Edgefield made by Dave the slave and others have said it is a Sam Welchel piece (also Edgefield). Since I am not a pottery expert I'll let you decide. As for the specifics of the piece: It has a brown & green glaze - there are some parts that look like alkaline drip, There are several rim chips including a large one that measures 2 1/2 inches across and 1 inch deep. There are two hairline cracks  - one starting a the big chip and going about 2/3 of the way down the body & the other is to the left of the incised 5 & goes about half way down the body. This jar is still stable. It is 5 gallons, stands 12 inches tall and is about 12 1/2 inches at it's widest point. Please email me with any questions.
