Robert Sperry was born in Brushnell, Illinois.In 1950 he received his B.A. in art history from the university of Saskatchewan,Canada.In 1953 he recieved his BFA from the University of Chicago and his MFA from the University of Washington in 1955. In 1954 he studied under Peter Voulkos when he was a resident artist at the Archie Bray.To add he taught at the University of Washington from 1955-1982 (1960-1982 ceramics Dept. head)and held Proffesor Emeritus status form 1982 until his passing.Truly one of the Giant Killers of the movement and a very important N.W. potter-his forms and glazes are bold and powerfull.Exhibited at the nationals in 1954,1956,1962, and 1964."Robert Sperry taught a generation of N.W. and american potters and his influence is evident in the pottery of the N.W. to this day.
