Description
For sale is an unusual folded edge dish or plate produced by the Jugtown Pottery of North Carolina. An early piece, circa 1920'sor 1930's, it shows some impurities in the clay, such as quartz. It is covered in a lead glaze known as tobacco spit brown. The dish is 1 1/4'' tall, is 11 1/4'' long, and 10'' wide. There is a 1/8'' flake on the plate edge, but otherwise is in excellent condition, with no other chips, cracks, or repairs. There are two sets of three 'stilt' marks- one on the bottom and one on the top, allowing them to stack multiple dishes in the kiln. It is marked with the circular, impressed Jugtown mark on the bottom.
