Description
For sale is an early piece of North Carolina pottery produced by the Jugtown Pottery circa 1920's or 1930's. I believe it is a water pitcher, as a coffee or tea pot would most likely have been fitted to receive a lid. Note the sieve or strain holes on the interior. It is covered in a clear lead glaze turning it a characteristic orange color. There are also some large areas of nice green spotting, especially on one side and near the spout. The pitcher is 7 7/8'' in height and is 9 1/4'' at its widest point from the edge of handle to the edge of spout. There is some damage- one glaze flake at the edge of the spout, an area of glaze loss on the handle, some small glaze flakes at the bottom edge, and numerous flakes around the top edge (see photos). One long spot on the rim, appears to have ocurred during production. It is marked with the impressed circular Jugtown on the bottom.
