This is one of the finest Majolica jardinière and matching pedestal that we have ever been able to offer for sale. Both the jardinière and the pedestal are signed with the Dressler mark that has the initials, 'J.B.D.' and the tower type structure above the letters. This is the early Dressler mark. On the bottom of the jardinière there is also an engraved number '1631' and in script writing the numbers, '3260' and '6'. Julius Dressler established a pottery at Biela in the State of Bohemia at about the same time that Schiller and Gerbing were dissolving their business. The jardinière and pedestal are decorated with an overall floral theme and some fancy geometrical designs. Seven bright and colorful majolica colors with high glaze decorated this beautiful piece with it's attractive molded designs. The jardinière top measures 15" diameter at the widest point and the base is 10 1/2" diameter and this piece consists of two pieces bolted together and are 15" high to form the jardinière portion. The pedestal is a tall impressive 36" high consists of 3 pieces being bolted together. The base of the pedestal is 13" x 13" and the top of the pedestal is 12 3/4" diameter. The total height of both the jardinière and the pedestal is 51" high. We have been able to locate some interesting history on Julius Dressler out of the reference book, 'European Majolica' by D. Michael Murray. The original condition of this jardinière and pedestal is exceptional I only see one small ding in the pedestal (we will try to take a close-up of this) which is located in the narrowest point of the pedestal where it bolts together to another section. This is a breath taking piece of Majolica that will be guaranteed to be a main feature in any fine Victorian majolica collection.
