Description
Vintage Marblehead Arts & Crafts Pottery Cylinder VaseDescription and Item InformationUp for sale is this vintage piece of Marblehead art pottery. This cylinder pot stands 7 1/2 inches tall, and it has a diameter of about 3 1/8 inches. It has a soothing purple or deep lavender glaze with a pleasing matte finish. The interior is glazed a frothy white. The vase has nice weight for its size, at 1 1/2 pounds, unpacked. It would be a great addition to a mission bungalow decor.Fixed, insured, well-packed shipping within the lower 48 U.S. states is listed above. U.S. shipping will be via USPS priority mail or FedEx ground (seller will choose shipping method). For international shipping prices, or shipping to Alaska or Hawaii, please ask for a quote, if desired. Thanks!IdentificationThis is marked beneath with the impressed MP ship logo. This is difficult to see in the photos, but this is guaranteed old and original Marblehead pottery. Marblehead pottery production began in 1904, as a studio operation where convalescing sanitarium patients worked. In 1905, Arthur Baggs became the director, and he was well-known for his decorating style in keeping with arts and crafts motifs. Baggs became the owner of the operation in 1915. Marblehead continued production until 1936. Even at its production height, Marblehead remained a small studio operation. The dedication to high quality output, combined with the interesting history, makes Marblehead a great arts and crafts pottery to collect.ConditionThe vase has minor damage, which does not badly affect display. As shown above, there is a small exterior rim nick (1/16 inch by 1/8 inch) adjacent to a fine, vertical hairline crack (about 2 inches long). There also is a contact fracture bruise to the opposite rim surface, with a flaked clay area, as shown; the flaked clay area is approximately 1/4 inch long. The vase is clean and ready to display; the white visible to the interior is glaze, and not hard water residue. Please review the photos, and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
