Description
You are bidding on an very limited Original piece of art from world famous glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. This particular piece from the Macchia series is called "Cinnamon" Description: Macchia, the Italian word for “spot," is the chosen name for one of Dale Chihuly’s most dynamic series. Macchia is color, layer upon layer, one for the interior, another for the exterior, along with a contrasting lip wrap, dusts and small chunks of glass called “jimmies.” “Unbelievable combinations of color—that was the driving force” says Chihuly of his creation of the Macchia series.Cinnamon Macchia, a Portland Press 2001 Studio Edition, represents his earlier work in this dramatic series. Its oddly shaped, yellow form is dusted with a red pigment and has a clear body wrap, with blue jimmies added to give it the spotted effect. Each piece is approximately 6 inches tall and signed by the artist.Accompanying this handblown Chihuly is a handsome Plexiglas case for display and a book, Chihuly alla Macchia. The fifty-four-page publication is introduced by art historian Robert Hobbs and includes close-up photographs of the glass and fifteen of Chihuly’s drawings related to the series.Cinnamon Macchia is a classic example of Chihuly’s obsession with color and his insatiable desire to experiment. Portland Press is proud to offer this as one of the first Macchia in the Studio Edition glass collection. This piece was purchased at the Bellagio's Chihuly Art Gallery in Las Vegas, Nevada.
