Manufactured on Catalina Island sometime during the period of 1927-1937, this piece measures 6.75" long x 4.75" wide x 2.25" tall at the tail. A similar piece is shown on page 49 in the Catalina Island Pottery Collectors Guide (copyright 1993). It's finished in a soft satin matte with a a pearly white hue, with details of the fins & mouth painted with Monterey brown & a black round eye. There's a couple of tiny scrapes on the Monterey brown paint detailing & one minute chip in the pearly white finish under the bottom fin - small imperfections that don't detract from the delight of this piece. There's also one little pin point impression in the pearly white glaze that appears to be part of the original manufacture of the piece. Impressed onto the bottom are the words "CATALINA ISLAND."
