Description
It is my privilege to offer for consideration a magnificent Carl Cooper plate skilfully hand painted with a zoomorphic scene done in the style of aboriginal rock art. This has to be the largest piece of Carl Cooper that I have ever seen, but Carl has not scrimped on any of the detail. Every inch of this plate is covered in the very fine and precise lines that so defined Coopers work. Even in the cream area around the fish – on close inspection it is full with individually applied white spots. It is clearly marked and dated to the back “Carl Cooper, 1949, Australia”. Carl Cooper was born in 1912 and he died in 1966. In circa 1940 he set a studio in the Melbourne suburb of Murrumbeena. Taken from page 67 of the bible (Geoff Fords, “Encyclopedia of Australian Potter’s Marks”. Dimensions Measures in with a HUGE 22.5 cm (9”) diameter. Condition It is in EXCELLENT condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs – as is most often the case with production of this style and vintage it does exhibit some crazing. This is seriously RARE. This is easily the largest piece of Cooper I have ever seen and it is done in his classic style. I doubt if you will ever find another one of these.
