Description
Offered for auction is this beautiful, tall, Rookwood art pottery vase, with soft porcelain body and with applied Vellum glaze. The vase was decorated in 1922 by famed Rookwood artist, Fredrick Rothenbusch. Mr. Rothenbusch decorated the vase with beautiful nasturtiums. The vase is just under 10 inches tall (9 3/4 inches to be more exact) and 4 inches wide at the shoulders. Marks on the vase's bottoms are: Rookwood's flame mark, 'XXII' (fabrication year: 1922), '2547' (shape number), 'V' (for Vellum glaze), 'P' (for soft porcelain - refer to page 136 of Herbert Peck's book), Fred Rothenbusch's cipher, and a ground 'X' (I am not sure why the vase has been 'X'd, maybe it is because of a couple of minute glaze bubbles). Amazingly, the vase is un-crazed - so, water must never have been put in the vase. The vase is in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or repairs (the white spots you see in the pictures are from the camera's flash). This is a NO RESERVE auction. Thanks for looking.
