Description
Offered for auction is this rare and beautiful pair of Mont Joye art glass vases that have been converted to lamps - it is rare to be able to find two matching lamps with equally matching bases.  The light-green-colored vases were first dipped in an acid bath to give them a frosted look. Art Nouveau floral decors were then hand-applied to the vases. The vases have similar-decor, hand-painted, wooden bases. Each vase measures 12 inches (30 cm) in height and is 6 inches (15 cm) wide at the shoulders. Overall height of each lamp is 29 inches (63 cm), to the top of the finial (I have not shown the finials in the pictures, but I have the finial-rods to mount the shades on). The wooden base's width is 8 inches (20 cm). The glass is in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or repairs (as expected, the gilt at the top-rim have faded by having been rubbed against the metal-top). One of the wooden lamp bases was made in sections (see last picture). The electrical cords on the lamps look fine (so many old lamps need to have their cords replaced - the bulb-holders are marked, 'Leviton'). Signature: Though a vast number of Mont Joye vases were never signed, the ones that were signed, were signed with the Bishops' marks at their bottoms. These vases may very well be signed, but since the bottoms of these vases are covered with wooden bases (with felt covers to protect the table surface), if signed, I am not able to see the signatures. I have examined the vases under long-wavelength black-light and they do not fluoresce like early Bohemian glass-blanks. Since these vases are not of Bohemian origin, in all likelihood, they are 'Mont Joye' vases. This is a NO RESERVE auction. Thanks for looking.N.B. Because of the large size and delicate nature of the lamps, shipping cost to US destinations would be $75.
