Description
Offered for auction is this rare Moser art glass vase or rose bowl, made around 1885. The vase has beautifully enameled art nouveau decor. The glass is optic-ribbed, similar to some Durand and Steuben glass articles produced much later. The vase is approximately 7 inches (17 cm) tall and 6 1/2 inches (16 cm) wide. The vase is in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or repairs. The rose bowl has a polished pontil (see last picture). The metallic holder has age-appropriate tarnishing. Why is the vase rare? Mounted Moser vases are not commonly found. Like typical 19th century Moser articles, the vase is unsigned. The glass fluoresces when subjected to long-wavelength Black-light - so the glass-blank is definitely of Bohemian origin. For similar-shaped, optic-ribbed, Moser rose bowls, refer to Plate 71, page 103 of Baldwin's book (shown in last row photo here for your convenience). This vase is guaranteed to have been made by Moser. This is a NO RESERVE auction. Thanks for looking.
