Description
Brilliant Period Ruby-to-Clear Ship's Decanter The HOUSE OF BRILLIANT GLASS for the finest in American Brilliant cut glass A stunning piece of American Brilliant cut glass on a ruby-to-clear blank. A virtually identical blank is shown on page 18 of the Dorflinger line drawings catalog (an ACGA reprint); the blank is labeled 'yacht decanter.' We cannot find the design of the decanter in any of the currently known Dorflinger catalogs or books; the design is, however, similar to Dorflinger's "Genoa" design on page 7 of the line drawings catalog. Please note that the notching at the intersection of the flutes on the neck of the decanter and the two sets of horizontal miters are the same as shown on several Dorflinger decanters and carafes. Also, the bottom of the piece has a 48-point rayed star with varied-length rays; both Dorflinger and Hawkes used this motif on their finer pieces. Lastly, the deep ruby color is the same as the color on other known Dorflinger pieces including a Dorflinger "Chester" cigar humidor in our personal collection. Regardless, this is a great display piece deserving of prominent display in any collection. The decanter stands 7 1/2-inches tall with the stopper, has a maximum diameter of 6 1/4-inches and weighs 4.4-lbs. The stopper, which fits perfectly, has an inverted teardrop; the number '1' is on the end of the stopper and on the body of the decanter. The piece is in better than extremely fine condition (as described on our website) and the interior is free of any residue or discoloration. The slight 'yellow cast' to the glass is a result of our photos being taken in natural light; the uncased areas are very clear and water-white.
