B&O BALTIMORE & OHIO SHENANGO 6 1/4" PLATE BALTIMORE AND OHIO RR CENTENARY PATTERN BREAD AND BUTTER PLATESHENANGO BLUE AND WHITE CHINA, CARROLLTON VIADUCT 6 1/4" DIAMETERThis plate is a very vivid dark blue. It is marked 1827 1978 BALTIMORE AND OHIO RAILROAD COMPANY SHENANGO CHINA NEW CASTLE, PA., bearing the Capitol Dome logo at the center. There is another small marking: "42."The front of the plate is in mint condition; the reverse has two very tiny flaws, probably from glazing bubbles, at the ten o'clock and two o'clock positions. This is a 1978 reissue of the Centenary Pattern, originally commissioned in 1927 to mark the railroad's 100th anniversary.Earlier editions, produced by Lamberton and Shenango, had been made both for use in the railroad's dining cars and for sale to the public.The image on the center front is that of the railroad's Carrollton Viaduct. Around the rim are pictured rolling stock from the 1830 Horse Drawn Car through the 1925 "Lord Baltimore" locomotive.This is a highly giftable item, suitable for the railroad or history buff, or for any lover of china or Americana.
