We are selling a large collection of Majolica. Visit our store! Offered here is a Rare Antique Circa 1870s Etruscan Majolica Oversized Pitcher/Jug by Griffen, Smith & Hill. It features a gorgeous light brown glaze with a green wash, and tree trunk handle, with a molded relief of foliage, possibly ivy or a bamboo tree. Interior has a pink wash. Incised with Griffen, Smith & Hill of Phoenixville, Pa’s Etruscan Majolica mark used circa 1878 until 1889. In very good condition with rough unglazed flakes all over pitcher, the largest area measuring 1.5“ long. Overall crazing. Two 3/8” chips on underside of spout; a 1.25“ chip along edge of base. Chips mentioned are more significant; overall chips. A 2” hairline at edge of spout with flaking along break. Residue on interior. Measures 8.25“ tall and 8.75“ wide including handle and spout with a 5.25“ opening. An interesting piece for your collection! Shipping insurance is strongly recommended.
