Description
HUGO LONITZ / A. CARRIER-BELLEUSE "ROYAL GUARDSMAN" Superb Majolica statue by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) and made by Hugo Lonitz. This is an extremely rare statue since very few where made. Take a look at the last picture, this is a copy of page 675 of Bronzes by Berman. On the description it is noted that they are not sure if any of these pieces still in existence. This statue is absolutely impressive and in "excellent condition", it is very hard to find pieces of this magnitude in such condition. This is a rare opportunity to buy a museums piece made by two well known artists. Made circa 1875 Hugo Lonitz formed his manufacturing circa 1868 in Saxony Germany, and apparently he produced not to many pieces, but the quality of his Majolica is remarkable. For many experts, Lonitz quality is comparable to George Jones, but the majolica of George Jones is better known because a superior number of pieces had been manufactured. Most of Hugo Lonitz pieces are in Museums and private Collections. Take a good look at the pictures to see the quality of the details, colors and glaze shine.
