Lovely pottery vase from the Brown family of North Carolina, dating to apporoximately 1930, after the brothers started their individual businesses. The piece offered here is a genuinely outstanding example of the transitional wares being produced by the various North Carolina potteries in the 1920s and 30s. This classic form is well thrown with good proportion and profile, finished with an extraordinary painterly and unusual application of several glazes....indigo and purple, over a frogskin base. These glazes vary in density and finish depending on the area viewed....some are glossy and thicker, other parts are somewhat more matte and speckled....no two sections alike. A beauty! Size/Condition: Measures about 7.5"x 5.5" and is in excellent condition with light wear. Impress marked "Brown Pottery" to the foot, undated. The perfect addition to your collection.
