Description
Staffordshire England C. 1830 This is a whimsical little child's transferware mug or cup circa 1830. This piece stands 2 3/4 " tall x 2 3/4 " wide with an applied acanthus type loop handle. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted with a thick, blue pearlware glaze, in an earthenware ironstone material. The mug is transfer printed in black with greens, yellows and reds. This mug in entitled Rabbits. Two people kneeled in the garden while the rabbit eats from the plants. These mugs are rare to find and always a treasure to own! The piece is unmarked, but most certainly made in the Staffordshire, England Region. Mugs like this were made as gifts for good children, rewards of merit and Christening mugs or other special occasions. The condition of this exceptional mug is Very good. Clean and bright with nomal wear. A very tight hairline running down the front, making a t at the base, as shown in the photo. This mug is still very stable! Free from any other chips or cracks! Nicely potted transferware with a good deal of attention to detail. It is amazing that these were made for children at such young ages, so long ago! I am listing many more of these Child's mugs and ABC Child's plates! Shipping is quoted parcel post UNINSURED. I do require insurance, as the U S Postal service is very rough with packages, so please wait for and invoice before paying.
