Description
Six Dimension Design                                    Science in Stained Glass     Fire Sale                241 1/2 Lexington Ave                                     Buffalo, N.Y. 14222Period Antique 1896 -1901 reproduction / restoration. Dimensions " 45" x 28 1/4" One Window for sale now ! This window was originally damaged and it had been totally restored to like new condition. It came from a period house in Buffalo, New York where the "PAN AMERICAN WORLDS FAIR OF 1901 PRESENTED LIGHT & ELECTRICITY." I believe the artist who built the window was told by the owner to execute a stylized light bulb within the period style including a torch which was part of the theme of Pan Am Exhibit and Fleur de lei (flower of the lily) . A Thomas Edison photo image of light bulb was probably used for the light bulb, (see old 1879 images). The house of origin where the window came from was built in 1896. It was probably intentionally decorated with leaves/ flowers, by the original artist. The artist used the antique gold German crackle glass to simulate light flowing from a light bulb !  Niagara Falls, NY was first illuminated in 1860 with calcium flames, similar to flames in top of window.Niagara Falls, Electricity & Light Bulb all originated in Niagara Falls , NY.The first power plant named Niagara Falls Power & Manufacturing began to develop DC electricity in 1880. Edison's first street light bulbs produced by Brush Electric Light Co. were demonstrated in the village of Niagara Falls in 1881. In 1882 Charles Brush arrived in Niagara Falls with 16 carbon electric lights and a generator to illuminate the Falls. Jacob Schoellkopf ( who became famous for developing the first water electric generating turbines in the world) offered to power Brush's generator  the electricity to run the carbon lights. The limiting factor concerning this discovery was DC electricity could only travel a few miles in power lines.Nicholas Tesla a researcher from Croatia with Edison presented AC electric current and between 1896 & 1901 the Niagara Falls Power Co. in collaboration with Westinghouse Electric built long distance power lines to Buffalo, NY.  Than Buffalo had the worlds fair "Pan American Worlds Fair" with the city illuminated by the power of AC electric current. The frame of window is a authentic period wood frame ; however it is not the original frame for this window. The antique window fit into the frame by adding a new beveled border to compliment the window. The stained glass for the restoration is authentic new Tiffany glass produced in Pennsylvania. The windows were really insured far below their actual value for $10,000. Each window should really be closer to $50,000 each.  God Bless the lucky winner !                 There is a second twin window being restored now ! Unfortunately  I have to sell at least one of these windows !  If the auction price is good, I might part with the second twin at the same auction price.  The second window dose not have a frame ; however a similar frame could be built !Jim Sawyer
