Description
This huge platter was made solely by the Ridgway, Morley, Wear & Co. Staffordshire Potteries in Hanley, England, between 1836 - 1842.  (See Geoffrey A Godden's Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks, page 535.)   The pattern name is Agricultural Vase.  It features a lovely pastoral scene with great depth and detail in the imaging.  The  under-glaze maker's mark is shown in one of the photos.  It includes the words Improved Granite China.  There is also an incised mark difficult to decipher. The platter measures 19" x 14" x 2".  It weighs a hefty 6 lbs., 3 ozs. unpackaged.  The condition is terrific: no chips, cracks, or repairs.  There is one 3/4" shallow line that was done in the making - it's at the 7 o'clock position.  There is the normal scratching on the back that you would expect from a piece of this age.  The great platter came out of a Connecticut estate, and it doesn't appear to have traveled around much in its lengthy life.  There was an ancient wall hanger on it when I purchased the platter;  it seemed to have been on there for many decades.    This lovely and unique platter would be a Spectacular Gift for that special hard-to-buy-for person!!! (Maybe yourself.)  And no Mall Hassles! This is better than having Santa wiggle down your chimney!  It's even large enough for a holiday ham or turkey. The platter probably needs to be double boxed, which will put it into the USPS bigger box category.  I can ship it Parcel Post (less expensive) or Priority Mail (more expensive).  The eBay auto-shipping figure is not very accurate on a large item like this, so please let's figure that cost using your zip code at the finish.  Shipping is to be paid by the winner.  I'm guessing around $30.00 including insurance, which is mandatory on an item this valuable and irreplaceable. Best Wishes and Happy Shopping!
