This is from the "Oriental Sports' series. The "Oriental Sports" series was made by an unknown maker and also by Edward Challinor. This one was made by the unknown maker (mark is different than the Challinor mark). The view is called "The Common Wolf Trap". Circa 1830. Marked with the printed series mark only. The "Oriental Sports" series copied the views that Spode had in the "Indian Sporting" series. This early pearlware plate has a nice blue tint to the glaze. The condition is very good to excellent. No damage or repairs. There is a glazed over chip on the back foot (in-the-making). Wonderful very collectible series with animals in the border (bear, tiger, crane, etc...). Measures about 8 1/4".
