Description
SHIPPING CHARGE INCLUDES INSURANCE.Seller: Alley-Antiques DESCRIPTION: Our opening bid is our reserve. Staffordshire Transferware. Incredible early dark blue transfer Pitcher (jug, ewer) and Basin (bowl) set. This early earthenware set has a pearlware glaze, and dates back to the middle to late 1820s. It consists of a large pitcher and matching basin. Unmarked. Both sides of the pitcher and the inside of the bowl have the same pattern. The scene features 3 people sitting on the shore of a river with a basket and fishing pole, and a building across the river up on a hill. It is a beautiful detailed pattern. It is getting quite hard, in todays market, to find a matching 1820s dark blue pitcher and bowl set. These sets were heavily used and many were damaged, broken, or split up over the years. This jug and basin are in excellent condition for their age, which is remarkable. The bowl has a light crowsfoot on the underside that does not go through to the front (pic #4). No other damage. The pitcher has a couple of small spots of glaze flaking where you can see the brown eathenware clay, on the inside by the spout (pic #7). There is an in-the-making seam separation that travels up and down the inside handle, which is original to the manufacturing of the piece and is not damage (pic #8). No other damage. Both pieces have typical crazing. The set is fabulous and displays great. The pitcher measures about 10" tall. The bowl is about 13" in diameter and 4 1/2" tall. You would have a tough time finding a better more beautiful early set. GUARANTEED to date early 1800s. BID WITH CONFIDENCE .
