Description
Here is a little history about the Man that the dishes belonged to and then passed down to his son and that son and finall a friends Dads son. The Lawmen of Rossland John Kirkup Whale of a Tale John Kirkup was born in Kemptville, Ontario in 1855. He apprenticed as a carriage-maker and at the age of 21 went to Winnipeg to work construction in the housing boom. The next year he went to Victoria to return to his trade, but soon joined the Victoria Police. In 1881 he joined the BC Provincial Police and went to Yale for the construction of the CPR until 1886 and then went to a desk job. On 1 January 1891 he married Margaret Susan Kerr (born 1866). By 1894 his disdain for local politicians had so angered the business community all the way from Revelstoke to Nelson that their lobbying forced his resignation. However in 1896 he was rehired and appointed to Rossland as Chief Constable and Recorder (there is some confusion about the date - either he was rehired in 1895 or he was already in Rossland when he was rehired, since he had a son born in Rossland in November 1895). The fourth dinner plate has a round crack which has been repaired. The 13 remaining plates are all in near mint conditionThere is one that shows wear along the outer rim.Well wear is more like damage slighly .There are 4 types of plates 3 sizes and 3 different depths.I also have a serving platter which is not shown in this set and is not included in the price however there are some other peices that may possibly be up for sale. There is also his cane which is composeed of animal antlers .There is more at the museum in Rossland B.C. from The first Lawman of the West as he was so aptly named.I do reserve the right to terminate this listing at any time and as well decide that the buyer is not have a suitable home for these peices of history I will terminate the sale.Bidders must have a minimum of 10 feedbacks or they do not qualify to place bids on this listing.I will only ship to a confirmed address.anyone with negatives need not place a bid. Some people are pre-approved.
